About KIMC

The Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) was established in 1961 and was named as the then Voice of Kenya Training School.

Its main purpose was to train electronic engineering and technicians for the then, Kenya Broadcasting Service (KBS), that was later rebranded in 1962 as the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). KBC was then nationalized in 1964, and changed its brand to Voice of Kenya (VOK).

KIMC SIGNS AN MOU WITH THE COUNTRY GOVERNMENT OF UASIN GISHU

The Institute has taken one further step towards her long held vision of expanding its services to the counties through the setting up of satellite campuses. The Institute on 27th February signed an MOU with the County Government of Uasin Gishu at a ceremony in Eldoret attended by His Excellency Jackson Mandago, Governor, County Government of Uasin Gishu and KIMC Council members Mr. Charles Kilonzo and Col. (Rtd) Joel Tirmet. Governor Mandago signed the MOU on behalf of the County government of Uasin Gishu County, Mr. Kilonzo on behalf of the Institute while KIMC Director Mr. Hiram Mucheke signed as the witness. Other members of KIMC staff present during the signing ceremony were the Deputy Director Mr. Peter Wakoli and Corporation Secretary Mrs. Angela Kiptoo. 

The two parties committed themselves as follows: The County government will provide land where the Eldoret Campus will be located, and provide the necessary physical infrastructure such as roads, power and water to the campus. The Institute will development and administer training programs that recognize and address the media requirements as well as invest in capacity for quality training among commitments.

  The Institute will forever be grateful to the County government and people of Uasin Gishu for their generosity in offering land for the construction of the KIMC Eldoret Campus. KIMC will always remember, H.E Governor Mandago for his vision in inviting the Institute to start a Campus in Eldoret.

This is a commercial arm of the institute that offers services to external clients in order to generate revenue to support training activities. The services offered by the centre include:

  • Film/ video production services which include: location filming; editing; dubbing.
  • Printing services which include: magazines; newsletters; calendars; booklets; posters; fact sheets.
  • Equipment hiring.
  • Computer Labs
  • Library
  • Dark Rooms
  • Tv and Radio Studio
